Intent to Homeschool Forms

Public schools and homeschooling families are starting a new year in the Walla Walla Valley.

While homeschoolers don’t have to follow the same schedule as public school students, the State of Washington requires us to communicate with the school district in which we reside. If you aren’t sure which school district you are in, you can use this tool to help you find out.

In the state of Washington, we are required to notify the school district that we reside in that we will be homeschooling children who are 8 years or older by September 15th. This is done by turning in a Declaration of Intent to Homeschool, and a few options are available to you as a homeschool family.

The first option is to use the district-specific form the district itself provides. We have taken the time to contact each district in our area and have included them in this blog post for your convenience. Not all districts have this form readily available on their website. As we mention below, please review the forms and the regulations set forth by the legislature regarding what information you MUST provide to the school district. Some of the districts have more requests on their form than what is required by the law.

The second option is filling out the generic form Washington Homeschool Organization provides. Washington Homeschool Organization and the Homeschool Legal Defence Association both mention that state regulations only require the child's age, not their birthdate. You can read more about the specifics of these nuances here and here.

Click the button below to access the Google Drive where we have stored the district-specific forms.

Whichever route you choose to take we are so glad that you are part of the homeschool community in the Walla Walla Valley! This is just the first step in your amazing homeschool year.
