Getting Started Homeschooling
Ready to Embark on Your Homeschooling Journey in Washington? Let's Get Started!
So you're thinking about homeschooling – that's awesome! It's a big decision, but it can also be an incredibly rewarding one. We're here to help you navigate the process and discover the unique homeschooling style that fits your family best.
What’s Your Homeschooling Style?
Homeschooling is all about flexibility and finding what works for YOU. Do you thrive on a structured, day-by-day curriculum, or do you prefer the freedom to explore different learning paths daily? The first step is determining your family's strengths and learning styles. Once you know what kind of homeschooling experience you're looking for, you can start exploring curriculum options and co-ops that align with your needs. We really like the quiz that Homeschool On has on their website. It lays out the main homeschool styles, traditional, classical, Charlotte Mason, unit studies, unschooling, and eclectic, and helps you understand your own style.
The Legal Stuff (We’ll Make it Easy!)
Don't worry; we won't bore you with legal jargon! The Homeschool Legal Defense Association and the Washington Homeschool Association have put together super easy-to-read guides on Washington State's homeschooling laws. Check those out first, and then you'll need to submit an Intent to Homeschool form to your local school district. We've got a list of local districts right here on our site to make it even easier for you. We have put together a blog post pulling all the Intent to Homeschool forms for the Walla Walla Valley in one place. You can find that here.
Find Your Homeschooling Tribe
Connecting with other homeschooling families is a game-changer! Whether you join a co-op or not, having a community of like-minded families for support, sharing ideas, and hanging out makes all the difference.
You can often find homeschoolers at the library, park, or church. But if you're having trouble connecting, our Homeschool Insiders membership can help! We'll hook you up with local Facebook groups, playgroups, and co-ops, and you'll get to meet other fantastic homeschool families in the area.
Ready to take the next step? Dive into those legal resources, explore curriculum options, and start building your homeschooling community today! And remember, we're here to support you every step of the way.
